A Trip to Irukkam Island !!

Are you an Island lover? Want to see the beauty of Island? Here you can go. The Irukkam Island.

Irukkam Island is located in the middle of Pulicat Lake. It's only accessible by boat - 9 km from Bimuni vari palem. Now a days the government is focusing on this beautiful spot to develop into an island resort. Most of the foreign tourists are attracting towards this Island.

It is very close to Chennai also very near to Tada and Sullurpet Mandals. The most important industrial areas such as SriCity and Apache are very close to this Island. So Officials are now busy chalking out plans to set up a tourist resort with treetop houses, fire camps, hobby fishing and other facilities.

As a part of long term vision, the development of the island is being planned in accordance with the Eco-tourism initiatives being taken up in Pulicate lake and also the nearby Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary.

The reason why I am giving all this information is all about the Irukkam Jaatara which is going to start in the Month of May and the way how people make it move a proclaimer to one place to another place by Boat.

A proclainer is generally very heavy in weight and difficult to ride on the land. Just image how will it be possible to move such a big vehicle to Irukkam Island that too by Boat. Its an amazing work right.?

As Jaathara is going to be started by next month, the people started cleaning activities as the part they faced very difficulty to remove seashore plants. So finally they planed to bring down a proclainer to this Island, but no one did accept or dared to bring a proclainer to this Island.

After a continues efforts the Irakkum People got the chance to bring the proclainer to this Island by boat as this the only transport facility they have. They used nearly Rs.15,000 worthy valuable wood to make the vehicle stable on the boat while sailing. The boat along with the proclainer on it started at 6:30 am in the morning from Bhimunivaari palyam and finally it reached Irukkam Island at 12 pm. Totally 20 workers have been associated to take care of the vehicle along with the boat. These 20 workers continuously started walking on this boat to make balance on water. And they successfully reached the land.

I am sure that if you are planning to visit this Island don’t hesitate just plan it soon. The boat journey from Bhimunivaari Palem to Irukkam is very exciting. In addition the tribal families in the Island will welcome you with their innocent smiles. The interesting part is they can speak both Tamil and Telugu easily.
