Ugadi - The Beginning Of The New Age !!

Finally the day was arrived Our real traditional Telugu New Year and we called it as Ugadi. I still remember my childhood days as we used to do silly things starting from collecting mangoes, neem buds, mango leaves, sugar canes, tamarinds etc etc and used to get more scoldings from my mom. The only thing I know those days is, Ugadi refers to Ugadi Pachadi and wearing new cloths and variety of food items. But the exact reason behind this is different.

Ugadi(Yugadi) is India's one of the big festivals. It is one of the famous and most celebrated  festival by all Hindus which falls every year in the month of March or April. Let me explain you the reason behind celebrating Ugadi festival.

Actually this festival is associated with many stories and legends. As per shasta, ugadi is the day when Lord Brahma was instructed to create the Srusti in the month of Chaitra. Also this is the day when Lord Krishna had Vaikunta Payana and the era of Kaliyuga has started. From then Ugadi is celebrated on the first day as the New Year.

On this special day people wear new clothes, eat delicious foods such as pulihora, guggillu, daddojanam, vadalu and payasam also they will prepare a special Chatni (Ugadi Pachadi) which is the combination of 6 different ingredients. This is one such dish that has become synonymous with Ugadi. Bitter-sweet chutney is made from Neem buds, jaggery, raw mango, tamarind juice and seasoned with chilly, pepper and salt. Symbolically it signifies the six different tastes of life: ranging from bitterness, sweetness and sadness to surprise, anger, fear and disgust.

Once after preparing this Chatni everyone will offer this to Lord Shiv and then they will start taking it as prasadam.

During my childhood my grandmother used to tell that, on this special day when we taste this Ugadi Pachadi,
  • If we experience sweet taste then the whole year will be fruitful.
  • If we experience the bitter taste at first it represents the unhappy moments of life. Bitter moments are also a part of life and so it should not be forgotten.
  • If we experience the tangy taste  at first, it will represent the surprise element of our life and that a person should always be prepared for it.
  • If we experience the Spicy taste at first , It represents the angry moments in life.
So my wish is always I should get the sweet taste. So when Ugadi arrives I will eat a spoon full of Sugar and then I will eat Ugadi Pachadi.:) So that my belief will be granted. Ha ha ha...

Finally,

These kind of festivals keep coming one after the other. There is no death of festivals. What is needed is the intellect to experience and understand their true significance.

Love all. Have faith that God is present in all. Make everybody happy. Only then can you attain happiness. Also, Please don’t waste food. Offer food to the needy. Help the children who are starving for education.

No matter how rich or poor we are, Pray god with pure heart. Homas Yagnas are not needed. Pure heart with pure prayers will give you, your family and your well wishers a prosperous life.

Wish you all a very Happy Ugadi From TimepassPopcorn Team. !!!
