Many people throughout India celebrate the nation's Republic Day, which is a gazetted holiday on January 26 each year. It is a day to remember when India's constitution came into force on January 26, 1950, completing the country's transition toward becoming an independent republic.
Coming to the history,
After continuous struggles to get rid off the merciless 200 years of British Rule we got independence on 15th August 1947.
India became an Independent Nation on 15th August, 1947. On 26th January, 1950 India was formerly declared Republic. In Republic, the supreme power is held not by a monarch, but by the elected representatives of the people, along with an elected President. So this day is celebrated as the Republic Day.
The number 26th has its own significance in Indian constitution formation. If you observe January 26th is the day when the declaration of Indian Independence was passed.
January 26, 1930 was marked as 'Purna Swaraj Diwas’. And the constitution was passed on 26th November, 1949 in the Indian constituent assembly. And finally it was adopted on 26th January 1950 with a democratic government system.
When India was ultimately granted freedom by the British in 1947, but on August 15 and not January 26, the date was instead assigned to celebrating India's Republic Day.
The chief architect of the Constitution of India was Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and it took more than the next two years for the constitution to finally see the light of day.
Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Independent India, took the oath for office on this day in 1950. Our first President gave a speech that was greeted warmly by the citizens of India.
Celebrations:
Much like the Independence Day celebrations in India, Republic Day too is celebrated with grand parades in New Delhi and the different state capitals. The Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, artistes and performers from across the country participate in the parades to showcase the diversity of cultures. The President and state Governors receive the military salutes during the parades with the 'fly past' by the Indian Air Force officially concluding the parade in the national capital.
India receives a foreign head of state every year as its guest on the occasion of Republic Day.
And for this time The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is the chief guest at this year's Republic Day parade. As our Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE armed forces, A contingent of the UAE armed forces will march with the Indian armed forces at the Republic Day parade in Delhi.
Republic day is not just a national holiday, but to celebrate the rich heritage, vivid culture, diversity of India. We should all feel the patriotism and be proud to be an Indian.
